Cherokee scrubs review

A research synthesis of published specifications and owner reports. We have not worn these - and Cherokee is unusually honest about its own product, which is worth saying.

The verdict, and who it is for

Cherokee’s Infinity line is the most sensible default in this category for most people, and particularly for anyone whose employer launders their scrubs. The fabric is a 95% polyester / 5% spandex poplin with no rayon, which means it has real four-way stretch and still survives industrial temperatures - the combination the premium brands cannot offer.

It is wrong for you if hand-feel is what you are buying. A poplin is crisper and less soft than a rayon blend, and no amount of stretch percentage changes that. If softness is the point, FIGS or Jaanuu’s UltraSOFT line is the honest recommendation instead.

The thing that makes Cherokee unusual

It is worth leading with, because no other brand on this site does it. Cherokee markets an antimicrobial treatment called Certainty, states a specific durability figure for it - 50+ washings - and then explicitly disclaims what it does not do: garments featuring antimicrobial technology do not protect users or others against bacteria, viruses, or other disease organisms.

That is a brand selling a feature and telling you its limits in the same listing. In a category where treatment claims are routinely allowed to imply infection control, it is the single most creditable thing we found while researching this site - and it is a reason to trust Cherokee’s other claims more than we would otherwise.

One inconsistency: the treatment appears as both “Certainty” and “Certainty Advanced Odor-Resistant Fabric Technology” across different listings, which makes it hard to tell whether the underlying treatment differs between garments.

Fit and construction

The Infinity line runs a women’s V-neck and a men’s tuckable V-neck, which is more than most brands bother with. The poplin base gives the garment structure, so it holds its shape across a shift rather than relaxing - which is a genuine advantage over very soft knit fabrics.

Pockets are the quiet strength. Two front pockets with pen slots in both rather than one, plus an interior pocket on the right that Cherokee states fits an iPhone or Galaxy rather than implying it. Stating phone capacity is unusual and useful - a phone that does not fit is a daily irritation.

Where it falls short

Hand-feel. A poplin is crisp. People coming from a rayon blend notice immediately and some never get used to it. This is the main reason someone returns these.

No published fabric weight. Cherokee publishes exact fiber percentages and no weight, which is the one specification anyone who runs hot most needs.

No badge hardware. No D-ring and no shoulder badge loop, which WonderWink has at a similar price - and clipping a badge through a pocket edge is how pockets tear.

Set-in pockets on the jacket. Shallower than patch pockets, and they spill when you bend - which you do constantly while wearing a jacket, because you are usually doing something else.

The practical case

The strongest argument for Cherokee is arithmetic rather than fabric. The real answer to scrub laundry is owning four or five sets so nothing gets washed overnight, and at these prices that is achievable. Five Cherokee sets beat two premium sets, because the premium pair will always be the one in the wash.

Pair it with a jacket from the same line and you have a complete, laundry-proof, affordable uniform - which is a better outcome than a partial premium one.

The garment that explains the brand: 95% polyester / 5% spandex poplin with 96/4 rib trim, stated four-way stretch, moisture wicking and wrinkle resistance, pen slots in both front pockets, and an interior pocket Cherokee explicitly states fits an iPhone or Galaxy. No rayon, so it survives industrial laundry. Crisper hand-feel than the premium blends, and that is the honest trade.

What it gets right

  • Poly-spandex with no rayon, so this one actually survives a hot industrial wash
  • Pen slots in both front pockets rather than one, which sounds trivial until it isn't
  • Roughly half the price of the premium brands for a comparable stretch fabric
  • Phone-sized interior pocket, and Cherokee states the size rather than implying it

What it gets wrong

  • Poplin feels crisper and less soft than the premium blends - this is a fabric you get used to, not one you love
  • Cherokee's antimicrobial branding is inconsistent across listings (Certainty vs Certainty Advanced)
  • Cherokee's own disclaimer is explicit that the antimicrobial treatment does not protect the wearer or others from bacteria or viruses - it is an odor and garment-life claim only

Who should skip itYou are buying for softness. If what you want is the hand-feel of a premium scrub, no amount of stretch percentage will make a poplin feel like one.

Specs: Walmart - Cherokee Infinity scrub jacket listing

Worth including because the jacket is the garment people need and do not budget for, and at Cherokee prices it is an easy addition rather than a decision. A full zip comes off with gloved hands; the interior cell phone pocket on the right keeps your phone off the patient-facing layer. Set-in pockets are shallower than patch pockets and spill when you bend.

What it gets right

  • Zip front means you can get out of it with gloved or contaminated hands without pulling it over your head
  • The interior phone pocket is on the inside of the jacket, which keeps your phone off the patient-facing layer
  • The cheapest way to solve the one real problem with scrubs: hospitals are cold

What it gets wrong

  • Set-in pockets are shallower than patch pockets and things fall out when you bend
  • Same odor-resistant-only antimicrobial caveat as the rest of the Infinity line
  • Cherokee does not publish a fabric composition on the jacket listings located

Who should skip itYour unit bans outer layers at the bedside. A jacket you have to take off at every door is a jacket you will leave in your locker.

FAQ

Questions people actually ask

Are Cherokee scrubs good quality?

For a poly-spandex poplin, yes - four-way stretch, wrinkle resistance, a structured base that holds its shape, and pen slots in both pockets. The honest limitation is hand-feel: a poplin is crisper than a rayon blend and some people never adjust to it.

Does the Certainty treatment protect against infection?

No, and Cherokee states so itself: garments featuring antimicrobial technology do not protect users or others against bacteria, viruses or other disease organisms. It is an odor and garment-life treatment rated at 50+ washings.

Have you tested these?

No. This is a research synthesis of manufacturer specifications and published owner feedback. Nobody at Shift & Sole has worn these - see how we pick.

Are Cherokee softer or crisper than FIGS?

Crisper, by a clear margin. Cherokee uses a poplin with no rayon; FIGS uses 21% rayon, which is what produces drape. That difference is also why Cherokee survives industrial laundry and FIGS does not.

Do Cherokee scrubs have a badge loop?

Not on the garments we examined. If badge hardware matters - and clipping a reel through a pocket edge is how pockets tear - WonderWink’s Stylized line has a silicone D-ring and a shoulder badge loop at a similar price.

How this page was put together

We start from the problem the gear has to solve over twelve hours, shortlist products that are currently sold, compare the manufacturers’ published specifications against what that problem actually needs, and read owner feedback at volume to find the failure modes worth reporting. We have not worn, used or physically tested any of this. Where a figure comes from a manufacturer we name them; where published figures disagree with each other we say so rather than picking the flattering one; where nobody publishes a figure we say that too. We print no prices, because a stale number is worse than none. Read the full method.
