Start with the label, because the label settles this. WonderWink’s W123 line is 100% polyester. Dickies EDS Signature is a brushed 55% cotton / 45% polyester poplin. Everything people argue about afterwards - heat, wrinkles, shrinkage, how it survives the laundry, how long the stretch lasts - follows from those two lines, and both are published.
The fiber split is the whole comparison
Polyester does not absorb water. That is why it dries fast, resists wrinkles, holds its color and shrugs off industrial laundering - and also why it traps heat against you. Cotton does the reverse: it breathes and feels better against skin, then wrinkles, shrinks and takes an age to dry.
There is no clever fabric that escapes this trade. The only question is which half of it you can live with, and the answer is usually decided by two things you already know: how warm your unit runs, and who washes your scrubs. We go through the whole trade in how to choose scrubs, and this page is the brand-level version of it.

Neither brand publishes fabric weight in ounces per square yard, which is the single most useful number in this category and which Jaanuu does publish - see FIGS vs Jaanuu for what that disclosure is worth. Both brands here leave opacity as a guess.
Heat: Dickies, and it is not close
55% cotton against 0% cotton is the largest breathability gap between any two brands on this site. If you work somewhere warm, if the unit runs hot, or if you are managing hot flashes at work, that is the row that decides it and nothing in WonderWink’s feature list compensates.
The corollary is worth saying: if your problem is a cold unit at 3am, all-polyester is an advantage rather than a fault, and a night-shift kit often ends up polyester on purpose.
Laundry: WonderWink, decisively
100% polyester has nothing in it to shrink and no elastane to degrade. That makes it the right answer whenever the washing is out of your hands - employer laundering, a shared machine, or anyone who washes hot because of what landed on them. Our washing guide goes through the temperatures.
Cotton at 55% will shrink some on first wash and will wrinkle in a locker. If you want the honest version: a Dickies top that has spent a shift folded in a bag looks like it. If that bothers you, the wrinkle-resistant picks are a different set of garments entirely.
Size range: Dickies, by a wide margin
XXS to 5XL across the EDS Signature collection is the widest published range on this site. WonderWink does not state a collection-wide range, which in practice means checking style by style.
That matters more than it sounds for two groups. If you are at the small end, XXS is rare and most brands stop at XS. If you are at the large end, 4XL and 5XL in a mainstream line - rather than a separate “extended” range at a different price - is the thing people actually ask for. It is why Dickies is the first brand we point to from the curvy and plus-size roundup and from petite and tall.
Pockets and hardware: WonderWink
WonderWink publishes an actual pocket dimension - about 7.75 in by 7.75 in on the Basic top - which almost nobody in this category does, and it is the difference between knowing a tablet fits and hoping. The Stylized adds a silicone D-ring and a shoulder badge loop, so your badge is clipped to hardware rather than punched through fabric, plus reflective tape at the back neck for the walk to a parking garage in the dark.
Dickies publishes pocket counts in its style names rather than dimensions, and the count runs from three to five depending on which V-neck you buy. If pocket volume is the deciding factor, the pockets roundup ranks the whole registry on it.
Stretch, and which kind
WonderWink’s Stylized top is four-way stretch; the Basic is mechanical stretch, which is a weave trick rather than elastane and has noticeably less give. Dickies does not state elastane at all - the give comes from rib-knit side panels and neckline insets.
The practical read: WonderWink Stylized has the most give, Dickies has give in the places it put panels, and WonderWink Basic has the least. Panels are a more durable approach than elastane, because elastane is the component that dies first in any scrub - but panels only flex where they are.
What neither brand will tell you
Neither publishes fabric weight, so opacity on a light color is unknown until it arrives. Neither states an antimicrobial treatment - Cherokee does, with an explicit disclaimer, which is covered in the antimicrobial page. And WonderWink states plainly that it is AAMI Level Not Rated and non-fluid-resistant, where Dickies states nothing at all; neither of these is a barrier garment and you should not treat them as one.
Who should buy which
Your unit runs warm. Dickies, for the cotton.
Your employer launders your scrubs. WonderWink, for the all-polyester.
Your size is XXS, 4XL or 5XL. Dickies, which publishes the range.
You carry shears, a penlight and a tablet. WonderWink, for the published pocket size and the utility loops.
Your badge keeps tearing your top. WonderWink, for the D-ring and badge loop.
You want it to look pressed after a shift in a bag. WonderWink - and expect to be warmer for it.
You want five sets and change left over. Either. Both are mid-market, and owning five sets is what actually solves scrub laundry. The brand overview puts both next to the premium options so you can see what the extra money buys.
